Citroen vans are well established in the UK with a reputation for reliability and longevity. Citroen also seem to have a knack of producing models to suit all requirements. Their latest range of vans comprises four basic models but with a huge range of options enabling the buyer to get a vehicle tailor-made to fit his requirements.

Citroen Nemo

There are many small vans available from all manufacturers, mostly being derived from cars. The Nemo is no exception and, like its almost identical siblings, the Fiat Fiorio and Peugeot Bipper, is based on the Fiat Punto. Despite its compact dimensions, it offers an impressive 590 kg payload of 2.8 square metres which is much more than that of small hatchback based vans. The problem of coping with long loads is dealt with by having a folding passenger seat to increase the available load length. Asymmetric rear doors give good access and all but the base model feature a side door, two side doors being a further option. The Nemo offers low running costs and a car-like drive although the uprated springing may be rather firm when unladen.

Citroen Berlingo

The Berlingo is well known in MPV form, the Multispace being a van-derived car but, as a van, it offers a choice of bodystyles on the same platform. A wide range of engines are available including petrol, electric and four diesel options. The load space is larger than that of the Ford Transit Connect or Renault Kangoo but, at 986 kg is bettered by the 1000 kg Fiat Doblo Cargo or Vauxhall Combo.

Citroen Dispatch

The Citroen Dispatch, along with the Peugeot Expert and Fiat Scudo are well established as very practical medium sized vans. They are among the largest of the car-derived vans and, as such, offer car-like performance and handling. The latest models offer options in height and length and load capacities from 5 to 7 cubic metres and 1000 to 1200 kg payload.

Citroen Relay

The Citroen Relay is basically identical to the Fiat Ducato and Peugeot Boxer and comes in a vast range of sizes and body types. There is no suggestion that the Relay is anything other than a commercial vehicle being designed from the ground upwards to fulfill its load carrying role. The 2.4 litre diesel engines come in 108, 128 or 148 bhp versions and, depending on the model, load space can be between 8 cubic metres and 17 cubic metres with a payload of 1115 to 1900 kg.

Citroen’s vans have a well deserved reputation for reliability and their diesel engines in particular are among the best available. Whatever the van user’s needs, Citroen can probably provide a near ideal vehicle.
